Privacy Policy
Short version: the translator runs on your device and your text never reaches us.
Last updated: August 19, 2026
Who is responsible
The controller for any personal data processed through this website is:
Philipp Schönnagel
Buchenweg 28
82441 Ohlstadt
Germany
Email: webmaster@morsehelper.com
Because the site is operated from Germany, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) applies. Full operator details are on the imprint page.
Your translated text
The Morse code translator is implemented entirely in JavaScript running in your browser. Text you type or paste, and the Morse code produced from it, stay in your device's memory. They are not transmitted to our servers, not written to any database and not logged. You can verify this by loading the page, disconnecting from the internet and continuing to use the tool.
Audio playback also happens locally: the tone is generated by your browser's Web Audio API, not streamed from anywhere.
What is stored on your device
Two functional values may be stored in your browser's local storage: mc-theme
for your colour theme and mc-consent for your answer to the cookie banner. Both
stay on your device, are readable only by this site, and can be cleared through your browser
settings. The translator itself sets no cookies. See the
cookie policy for the full list.
Server logs
The site is served as static files by a hosting provider. Like virtually all web servers, that provider records standard request data - IP address, timestamp, requested URL, referrer and user agent - for security and troubleshooting. This happens on the basis of our legitimate interest in operating the site securely and reliably (Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR). Log data is not combined with anything else and is not used to identify individual visitors.
Hosting is provided by STRATO AG, Berlin, Germany, acting as a processor under a data processing agreement. Server logs are stored on servers in Germany and are deleted automatically after a short retention period. See STRATO's privacy information for details.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4, provided by Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland, to understand which pages are useful and which search terms bring people here.
Analytics only runs with your consent. On your first visit a banner asks whether you agree. Until you press Accept, no Google script is loaded and no analytics cookie is set. If you press Decline, nothing is loaded at all. You can withdraw consent at any time via Cookie Settings in the footer, which also deletes the analytics cookies already stored.
When enabled, Google Analytics processes your IP address (shortened before storage), the pages you view, approximate location derived from the IP address, device and browser type, and referring source. It does not receive anything you type into the translator. Data may be transferred to servers in the United States; Google LLC is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, and Google's standard contractual clauses apply in addition.
Legal basis: your consent, Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR in conjunction with section 25 (1) TDDDG. See Google's privacy policy for how Google handles the data as a processor and controller.
Advertising
No display advertising is currently active on this website. The layout reserves space for it, but no ad network is loaded and no advertising cookies are set.
TODO before switching adverts on: an ad network becomes an independent recipient of data such as your IP address and may set cookies or similar identifiers. Name the network here, link to its privacy notice, describe how to opt out, and put a consent banner in place - under GDPR and the TDDDG, consent is required in Germany before any non-essential storage or personalised advertising.
Your rights
Depending on where you live you may have rights to access, correct, delete or restrict the use of personal data about you, and to object to certain processing. Because the translator itself processes nothing on our side, such requests will normally concern server logs.
Under the GDPR you have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, and to object to processing based on legitimate interest. Send any such request to webmaster@morsehelper.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority; for us that is the Bayerisches Landesamt fuer Datenschutzaufsicht (BayLDA).
Children
This site is a general-audience utility and is not directed at children under 13. No account or personal information is required to use it.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version is published on this page with a new date at the top.
